Six Police Officers Shot in Philly During Standoff, After Police Attempted to Serve Narcotics Warrant

Subject

On Wednesday, at approximately 1630 EST, Philadelphia Police Officers were attempting to serve a narcotics warrant. At which time they were met with a barrage of bullets that turned into a standoff which lasted nearly eight hours.

Throughout the situation, six officers were shot, and at one point, two police officers were trapped inside the building for several hours, later to be rescued by SWAT.

While inside, the gunman opened fire on the officers as they surrounded the building. Further, dramatic news footage showed an officer pouring blood on the street while attempting to get to a patrol car to be transported to the hospital.

Shockingly, during the gunfight, the gunman inside the home was live streaming on Social Media. Authorities worked with social media to take down the live stream.

To end the standoff, authorities implored the shooter to come out of the building, surrender, and that he would not be hurt. However, it wasn’t until negotiators phoned the suspect’s lawyer on a three-way call, that he finally gave in.

As a result of the shooting, many politicians are using the situation to call for gun reform. However, the subject in the shooting is a felon, which makes it illegal for him to possess firearms.

The subject is believed to be 36-year-old Maurice Hill, according to his lawyer Shaka Johnson. Whom, the subject called during the shootout, at around 8:30 pm. “Maurice called me in a panic, obviously. He did not want this to end violently and he really was sort of taking an opportunity to speak his peace. I told him, ‘You gotta surrender, man,'” Johnson told CBS 3’s Greg Argos.

In response to the shooting Philadelphia Police Commissioner stated that he hadn’ t seen anything like it “in years.”

Further, according to Heavy.com; Maurice Hill, the alleged gunman, has a slew of gun offenses, starting when he was 18. It is apparent that the gunman illegally obtained the weaponry he had.
